Today our earth family is facing serious economic, health, environmental, and energy resource crises. Among these, mental, physical and spiritual problems are the worst. Even more significant is the accumulative picture they generate. Without healthy, energetic minds, bodies, and spirits, it is difficult (and often impossible ) to achieve peak performance and success at all levels of living—individually as well as globally. As such, it becomes increasingly more difficult to attain a state of resolve as we work toward establishing a greater good for all.
MBMU has been born—within this critical time—as a solution aimed at the core of these crises.
MBMU is an educational, research and healing institution. Collectively we are made up of faculty, staff, and students who view themselves as on a mission to help bring low cost, high efficiency, and quality healthcare to people of all communities. Academically, MBMU offers doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degree programs in Mind-Body Medicine and Holistic Psychology, as well as a wide range of certificate programming. Our work at MBMU probes, via analytical review and application, the inseparable connection between mind, body, and spirit and the complexity of interactions among these. Emphasis, within our academics and research, is on the integration of holistic medicine, energy medicine, spiritual medicine, natural medicine, holistic psychology, modern and ancient medical science, and life science.
The rapidly increasing and overwhelming high cost of healthcare has already become a major concern in the United States and other countries. As we look toward the future, lowering costs as well as improving the efficiency and quality for healthcare services are all extremely critical. This reformation of our healthcare system does not solely rely on government regulations, but also requires the joint kindhearted efforts of healthcare practitioners; a mind-body science technology and education; and a heightened awareness of integrated medical options across all community lines.
Mind-Body Medical University integrates Eastern and Western medical science, psychological science, modern techniques and ancient wisdom to achieve a high quality, natural, non-invasive no side effects healthcare system addressing the whole being, mind-body-spirit, and healing both causes and symptoms.
Faculty at MBMU are internationally distinguished mind-body scientists and health practitioners. Our team includes doctors, therapists, healthcare professionals, educators, researchers, administrators, social workers, and authors, collaborating together to help families and individuals achieve optimal health of the mind, body and spirit.
A graduate from MBMU will be trained to meet future demands for more preventative, integrated, noninvasive healthcare. Essentially, MBMU nurtures talented professionals, doctors, healthcare practitioners, and scientists to serve people all over the world.
This is an optimal time for us to work together as a faculty, staff, and student body toward the establishment of whole healthcare programming and a whole medical system. It is a time to express our individual, as well as unified, creativity and compassion for humanity in and through the promotion of new technology, science, and holistic arts within the establishment of this ground breaking epoch university. What Is Mind-Body Medicine (MBM)?
Short Definition of Mind-Body Medicine
Mind-Body Medicine (MBM) is a scientific system and clinical practice that achieves mental, physical and spiritual health by balancing and connecting the mind, body, and spirit as one unified life unit. Mind-Body Medicine originated from a profound traditional medicine. It developed thousands of years ago and is widely used in modern times. This is a short definition by the Mind-Body Medical University. A complete definition is not possible with one or two sentences. Please read on for more discussion about MBM.
So far there is no classical or official definition for Mind-Body Medicine. The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) has provided a partial definition of Mind-Body interventions. The definition is as follows:
Mind–body interventions is the name of a U.S. National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) classification that covers a variety of techniques designed to enhance the mind's capacity to affect bodily function and symptoms. Some of these are techniques that were once considered to be complementary or alternative medicine but have now become mainstream (for example, patient support groups and cognitive-behavioral therapy ). Other mind-body techniques are still considered complementary or alternative medicine, including meditation, prayer, mental healing, movement re-education, and therapies that use creative outlets such as art, music, or dance [1]
This definition revealed the correlation between mind and body as a phenomenon implicit within the term itself and classified some techniques (but not all) into the Mind-Body Intervention practice. Mind-Body Intervention, however, does not define Mind-Body Medicine as an independent stand-alone scientific system of medicine or healing technology. It does not address Mind-Body Medicine in terms of principles, mechanisms, techniques, and technologies, or as a complete scientific system.
As more practitioners and scientists research, practice, and understand Mind-Body Medicine, definitions and explanations may vary. Here we use the following definition and explanation taught at the Mind-Body Medical University (MBMU) to define Mind-Body Medicine. For detailed teaching and actual practice, join MBMU's students and faculty as we work together in this exciting field of whole healthcare programming.
Long Definition / Description about Mind-Body Medicine
Objects of MBM - Mind, Body, Spirit
Mind-Body Medicine (MBM) is a complete and profound scientific and technology system of healing and self-healing, therapeutic medicine and preventive medicine, physical exercise, and mental and spiritual cultivation practice for the whole being of mind, body and spirit. This system deals with the fundamental life origin or essence. Its application brings benefits to all levels of the life. MBM directly accesses the fundamental life origin/essence, SPIRIT at its energetically highest level. The SPIRIT carries on and leads up to the human MIND as the second level of life component. The MIND connects to the biological BODY in the physical dimension at the lowest level of energy.
In MBM, it is roughly considered that the life structure has these three components as described above. In principle and technically, however, it deals with much more fantastically delicate multiple levels from macroscopic levels, through a microscopic, cellular, molecular level, then subatomic particles, composite particles, elementary/fundamental particles such as quarks, leptons and gauge bosons’ levels, to the most fundamental origin of living substances. Therefore the Life Structure or Anatomy of Life in Mind-Body Medicine is a much complicated system that is composed from multiple levels of components; from SPIRIT through the MIND and finally to the physical BODY. The physical body as treated by modern conventional medicine is only a very small and superficial part of the life.

Energy Connecting and Supporting The Whole Being of Spirit, Mind, Body
MBM considers vibration as life’s common phenomena. The energy produced during the process of vibration is considered life's common character. With these two concepts MBM connects and integrates all levels of life into one unified unit. Life vibrations occur at all levels and energy is produced at all levels. Energy is life's vitality, is the spirit of life, that is, the quantum particles or fundamental particles which can transport across multiple levels, therefore unifying, blanching, nursing, and nurturing life so that is able to live in a healthy condition.
Energy Practice is the Key in MBM
Disease, dis-ease or discomfort, is caused by blocks of energy flow, imbalance / disharmony of energy patterns, as well as lacking or low level energy at any level possible within the mind, body and/or spirit connection. Therefore, the entire healing and health practice of MBM is imbedded in energy practice. All techniques in MBM are for the purpose of improving the quality, purity, amount or level, balanced status, and flows of energy. As such, MBM is also called Energy Medicine. And because energy involves quantum particles and a super microscopic level of vibrational energy—quantum energy—it is also sometimes called Quantum Medicine.
From this ultimate scope of energy medicine / mind-body medicine, one of the typical examples of energy medicine is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which uses a very delicate energy system called the Meridian System , a well-established network system of energy flows within the mind, body and spirit, to deal with all issues of life and health. Other types of MBM practices such as naturopathic medicine, Indian medicine, Yoga, Qigong, Taiji /Tai Chi, herbs, chiropractic, massage, hypnosis, meditation, psychological conversation and consultation, all are for the same purpose, but in different forms which can strategically be applied to address a diversity of health needs or conditions.
Energy is in the Spiritual Dimension and Requires Cultivation of Mind, Body and Spirit
Because the energy of MBM is not at surface or physical levels, MBM practices or techniques are difficult to learn and understand. As a result, MBM study and practice require a combination of spiritual belief, intellectual understanding, inborn sensitivity, pure mind and calm mentality. The objective is to feel, to experience, to understand, and to apply. Student willingness to train, train, train and keep training is essential.
However, as a result of acquired learning, education, and experience within our material lives, rigid mentalities, habits, and concepts can drive us. This locks our mind on the physical dimension and restricts our capability of reaching the higher energetic spiritual element. As such, the quality of energy practice in MBM requires spiritual cultivation, mindful practice, psychological self-recognition, spiritual enlightenment, meditation, calming the busy mind, focus on true spirit/soul, letting go human attachments, and more. These practices are instrumental for entering and reaching the pure and high level energetic dimensions of MBM, as well as for sustaining these. At this point of definition, MBM is also called Spiritual Healing or Spiritual Medicine.
From this vantage point, it is not difficult to understand why the same teacher trains the different students with the same herb, same acupuncture needle, the same technique, and yet healing results are different. Why one’s practices may be successful and another’s not. Each MBM doctor has his or her own level of energy sensitivity and practice, even though their comprehensive knowledge base is the same. And so again, each student’s willingness to train and keep training is key.
Modern Medicine Deals with a Life up to Molecular Level but Does not Reach the Fundamental Particle Level
MBM starts from the highest energy level, elementary particles to physical level, and uses energy in different forms to heal the person. But modern medicine deals with the physical body up to the molecular level, and nothing beyond that. Because mental and physical diseases are caused at much higher energy levels, medications do not address root cause, although they can improve some conditions (symptoms) at physical levels. Eventually, however, the initial problem either recurs or the original energy problem moves to another location within the person, causing other problems. MBM does not have this setback because MBM directly reaches the high energy level to heal root causes and as result, symptoms are also eliminated.
MBM History - Initialed at the Ancient Time
MBM was initiated during ancient times by mysterious divine power and wisdom that influenced, enlightened and transmitted to human forefathers this blessed GIFT for human healing, self-healing, health, and mind-body-spirit cultivation.
At that time, there was no such a name like Mind-Body Medicine. MBM is a modern term created by modern health practitioners and is based on the nature of today’s healing and healthcare practices. Since MBM deals with the mind, body and spirit at the same time at multiple levels, it indeed should be named as Mind-Body-Spirit Medicine. But for short and just as a term, Mind-Body Medicine is commonly used by current professionals in the field. Here we use term of Mind-Body Medicine, as well, but the actual meaning is Mind-Body-Spirit Medicine.
A Totally Different System from Conventional Medicine
MBM is totally independent from the modern conventional medical system. It is based on totally different principles, and uses totally different concepts, treatment subjects, terminology, ideology, procedures, tools, materials, descriptions, expressions, methodology and technology to deal with health issues, diseases, discomforts, feelings, emotions, consciousness, thoughts, behaviors, life phenomena, as well as, the meaning and essence of lives. It is totally wrong to describe, explain, learn and practice MBM, using the understanding, knowledge, notions, terminology, and technologies of modern conventional medicine and other modern sciences—although sometimes modern science and techniques can reflect some superficial phenomena of MBM's healing processes and results, helping one better understand MBM to a certain extent.
In conclusion, when learning MBM, we use MBM's own thinking and modalities to understand, to explain, and deal with problems; but we can, however, augment these with modern science and technology—as stated above—to give some experimental support or demonstrative basis to certain ideas that help understanding or provide evidence at some level (not completely) for mind-body medicine.
MBM's Nature and Advantages:
MBMU follows the principles of original medicine, Traditional Chinese / Oriental Medicine, natural medicine, holistic medicine, mind-body medicine, holistic psychology, traditional healing arts or other alternative and complementary medicine modalities that focus on the mind-body connection as the key principle to heal diseases, as well as to promote and maintain health.
These healing sciences and practices have many fundamental, beneficial principles and natures that conventional medicine does not. They are:
Natural
Non-invasive
No- negative-side-effects
Low cost
High efficacy
Healing
Preventative
Compassionate
Caring
Patient involved
Engendered by mutual trust
Scientifically and philosophically enriching for student and practitioner
